Types of Tea and their Health benefits

According to Wikipedia, Tea is an aromatic beverage prepared by pouring hot or boiling water over cured or fresh leaves of Camellia sinensis, an evergreen shrub native to China and East Asia. After water, tea is the most widely consumed drink in the world.

There are so many different types of Tea. However, the major Tea type consumed is black tea and tea with milk.

Let’s see some of the other types of tea and their health benefits.

  • Green Tea.

These tea leaves are least oxidized and prevent the onset of cancer in some body parts like the stomach, lungs, bladder, and pancreas.

  • White Tea.

White tea comes from the same plant as green or black tea. White tea helps in losing weight and contains compounds called catechins that strengthen bones.

  • Herbal Teas.

Not all teas come from Camellia Sinensis. Brews made from extracts of medical and sweet-smelling herbs are also called tea. Some popular herbal teas and their benefits are:

1.Peppermint Tea.

This tea is prepared by boiling and straining peppermint leaves. Its benefits are that it helps with digestion, speeds up metabolism, and relieves stomach pain.

2.Ginger Tea.

Ginger teas are the best way to start the morning! This tea is prepared by adding a small amount of ginger while boiling the water. It is full of antioxidants that can reduce inflammation and keep your heart healthy.

3.Lemon Tea.

This tea is prepared using black tea or green tea and by adding the right amount of lemon juice to it. Consumption of lemon tea removes plaque from your blood vessels, keeps the heart healthy, and improves mood.

Well, coming to the most basic Tea making method; The Indian method. Indians like their Tea with milk.

The Indian Chai is made by cooking the tea leaves in the mixture of milk and water, till it acquires a rich hue, aroma, and flavor.

If you like sugar in your tea, it is best to add it while the tea boils as it enriches the color and aroma too.

The major three elements – color, aroma, and taste need to be perfect for chai to be refreshing and enjoyable!

Now, let’s move on to the Indian Tea making process.

Ingredients –

1 tbsp. tea powder (Chai Patti)

¾ cup milk

1 ½ tbsp. sugar and water

Process

  1. In a non-stick saucepan put tea powder. (Chai Patti)
  2. Add sugar and water as per need.
  3. Add milk. If you wish you can add sugar after the water has been boiled for 2 minutes.
  4. Boil all the ingredients on a medium flame.
  5. Boil the tea till the mixture rises to the brim.
  6. Once it starts boiling, reduces the flame to low and keep boiling it for 3-4 minutes.
  7. Pour the tea using a strainer and Enjoy!
